D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an LOA Manager. The right candidate will be responsible for leading the Leave of Absence department in accordance with corporate policies, practices and applicable federal and state regulations.  Ensure all leaves are administered in full compliance of leave laws to include the Family and Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”), Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) and all other related employment laws. Promote a team environment and culture of customer service that will ensure program effectiveness.


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Manage the LOA Team to administer leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.) and ensure compliance with company policies

  • Educate and provide training and advice to employees and management regarding the various leave programs, procedures, and roles/responsibilities

  • Direct the development and delivery of educational resources to employees, HR, and management about leave of absence protocols, promoting a culture of awareness and understanding

  • Develop and maintain reports and metrics related to leaves of absence

  • Manage and distribute the workload of assigned cases for the LOA Team.  Provide a point of contact and leadership resource to the LOA Team for the leave programs in alignment and under the general direction and guidance of HR leadership and legal

  • Oversee the support and administration in the operational day-to-day HR transactions related to company policies and procedures as related to leaves of absence

  • Facilitate open communication with employees and management regarding the leave process.  Ensure that all parties are aware of the necessary documentation/qualifications to take an approved leave of absence

  • Initiate and facilitate the interactive process as necessary between employee and the company 

  • Provide guidance to LOA Team regarding the interactive process, heightened situational leave issues or advanced leave guidelines

  • Ensure the protection and preservation of confidential employee medical documentation and files in accordance with HIPAA and Employee Privacy standards

  • Maintain knowledge of and analyze government regulations, program trends and prevailing practices among similar organizations

  • Evaluate and propose updates to policies and programs related to leave administration. Implement or modify associated work process flows/streams, as needed

  • Establish and maintain professional internal and external relationships at all levels of the company

  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner

Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience



  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Ten years of experience in managing leaves (FMLA, LTD, STD) and accommodations in a complex, multi-state environment

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits as they relate to leaves of absence, including short/long term disability, COBRA, state disability, ADA, FMLA and other applicable laws

  • Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration required

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, and counseling employees and managers

  • Ability to handle confidential employee matters while maintaining confidentiality and tact

  • Able to take initiative, effective at prioritizing multiple projects, comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with exceptional follow-up and follow-through

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills aiding in effective communication and working relationships with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications

  • Proficiency with MS Office and email

  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; lift 5-10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision

  • The noise level is generally moderate


 


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred

  • Peoplesoft and absence management experience a plus
