As a Senior Engineer – Structure & Bridge, you will serve as the responsible-charge engineer for the evaluation, design, checking, and drafting of complex bridges and ancillary structures for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.

Core Responsibilities:
As a Senior Engineer – Structure & Bridge, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Design, Analyze, & Check Structural Elements:

Prepare preliminary and final bridge and structure designs for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.
Draft bridge plans, sketches, and structural drawings, ensuring compliance with AASHTO and VDOT specifications.
Investigate the condition of existing structures and perform structural analysis to verify safe load-carrying capacity.
Conduct structural calculations to ensure the soundness and compliance of all structural elements.
Project Management:

Serve as project manager for new bridge design and bridge rehabilitation projects.
Coordinate design activities with other sections, divisions, and consultants to ensure effective project development.
Assist in developing scopes of work, managing project schedules, reviewing proposals and manhours, and coordinating activities for project advertisement.
Attend and actively participate in project meetings.
Project Team Participation:

Lead or participate in project teams as assigned.
Ensure clear and timely communication between project team members and stakeholders.
Review and resolve challenges to enhance team performance and project outcomes.
Technical Guidance & Support:

Provide expert technical guidance and support related to bridge construction activities, issues, and problems.
Develop effective and economical recommendations to resolve construction challenges and address bridge-related inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications


• Ability to estimate quantities and costs of materials.

• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include automated engineering and design software.

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field.

• Ability to produce structural plans and designs.

• Experience applying civil engineering principles and practices related to structural engineering to include strength of materials, statics and structural analysis.

• Experience in structural steel design, reinforced and prestressed concrete design and soil mechanics.

• Valid Professional Engineer's license.

• Ability to interpret construction plans and design specifications.

• Knowledge of specifications, codes and regulations related to structural design (e.g. AASHTO and LRFD structural design standards).

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.

• Ability to manage projects and review and administer consultant design contracts.


Additional Considerations


• Experience in the design and analysis of bridges and structures.

• Experience using MS Office, bridge design, and MicroStation CAD software.

• Experience in bridge design engineering, repair, and rehabilitation.

• Experience using AASHTO's LRFD design specifications.

• Experience managing projects and consultant contracts.
